Acclaimed actor, co-founder of LOVE YOUR SISTER and 2018 Victorian Australian of the Year Recipient, Samuel Johnson, will be the guest speaker at the inaugural event “An Evening with… “ hosted by the Australia Day Council Northern Territory.
Australia Day Council NT Chair Jeannette Button said that the Council had taken a fresh approach with the 2018 event.
“After 22 years of holding a Black Tie Ball we have revisited our signature event and created a more intimate evening which focuses on an inspirational Australian.
“Australia Day is the day to reflect on what it means to be Australian, to celebrate contemporary Australia and to acknowledge our history.
“It is a day to celebrate all the things we love about Australia and share our stories. What greater story of love, commitment and community spirit than Samuel and his sister Connie’s story of LOVE YOUR SISTER and their pledge to raise $10 million for cancer research.”
“This will be a very special event, with a Welcome to Country by Larrakia traditional owner, Richard Fejo and the NT Australian of the Year Award Recipients in attendance on their return from Canberra and the national Australian of the Year Award ceremony,” Ms Button said.
“Guests will have an opportunity to welcome home Dr Bo Remenyi, Kathy Guthadjaka, Kevin Kadirgamar and Bettina Danganbarr and 2017 Senior Australian of the Year, our very own Sister Anne Gardiner.”
“An Evening with Samuel Johnson”, will be emceed by ABC Radio Darwin presenter Richard Margetson at the Darwin Convention Centre on Saturday 27 January. The dinner will feature a five-course degustation accompanied by premium wines, beer and soft drink.
Funds raised at the event help support Australia Day activities in communities across the Territory, to ensure that all Territorians enjoy the spirit of Australia Day.
Other Australia Day activities to watch out for include: the national broadcast of the 2018 Australian of the Year Awards ceremony on the evening of Thursday, 25 January and Australia Day Flag Raising and Citizenship Ceremonies, the Family Fun Run and Ute Run on Australia Day, Friday, 26 January.
