It’s not too late to nominate

July 27, 2018

Jeannette Button, Chair of the Australia Day Council Northern Territory is calling on all Territorians to think about the people doing great things in their community and nominate them for an Australian of the Year Award.

“These awards capture amazing stories of achievement, of people who are an inspiration to us all, demonstrating leadership and determination as they go beyond the call of duty,” Ms Button said.

“Recipients of the 2019 Australian of the Year Awards will join an alumni of Territorians who have led by example and inspired others to make a difference locally, nationally and globally. They are willing to stand up for what they believe in, to mentor and to take others on their journey.

“None less so than the 2017 Senior Australian of the Year, our very own Sister Anne Gardiner, who was recognised on the national and international stage for her work on the Tiwi Islands, or in 2018 Dr Bo Remanyi who was the recipient of the NT Australian of the Year Award for her work with tackling Rheumatic Heart Disease,” she said.

Nominations for the 2019 Awards remain open to all members of the public across four categories including Australian of the Year, Senior Australian of the Year, Young Australian of the Year and Australia’s Local Hero until midnight Tuesday, 31 July 2018.

“Every Territorian can play their part by nominating someone so their efforts and contributions are recognised publicly.”

Nominating a community leader or unsung hero in your community is quick and easy – simply complete the online nomination form at or call 1300 655 193 for assistance in submitting your nomination.
